Kids' Cash Fair
Mountain America Credit Union Kids' Cash Fair
I've been procrastinating writing this post because this was an event that I wasn't a huge fan of. And I'm not out to bash Mountain America. I could tell that they put a lot of effort into this event. And the concept was super cool. But the execution just left the whole thing kinda blah.
This is the blurb that was used to advertise the event on facebook:
Help your kids learn about finances! Join us Wednesday, August 7, for the Kids’ Cash Fair at the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy. Your kids will earn and spend play money while participating in fun financial games.
When you checked in to the event, each child got a pretend wallet. There was a checklist of activities to go to (some just for younger kids and some just for older kids). You would go to each station, participate in the activity, get your wallet stamped and got a pretend dollar to put in your wallet. At the end, you could exchange your pretend money for prizes.
What I liked:
*The fact that they made an entire event around teaching kids about money was great!
*One of the prize options was to exchange your pretend money in for real money. Daisy ended up with $3 in real cash!
What I disliked:
*We were in the hallway of the expo center instead of in one of the exhibit halls which made the whole flow of things feel cramped and poorly organized.
*It was waaaaay too crowded. You were supposed to pre-register - which would mean they would know how many people to plan on. But then they allowed people to register at the event. There was no cap on how many people could attend - maybe they should have set a limit on how many could register so they could appropriately plan on the crowd?
*There were only 6 activities - 2 for little kids, 2 for big kids and 2 for everyone. Which means all those people were in 6 lines total. And the activities weren't short. They needed more activities and shorter activities. And just more space.
Anyway...like I said, the activity idea was great. The execution, not so much.
But hey, every adventure can't be a winner!
Here's Little D with her pretend wallet. (She didn't want me to take her picture.)
Stay tuned! Next up: The Gateway
