Goat Yoga
The Gateway is a large open-air mall with shops, businesses, activities, restaurants and more in downtown Salt Lake. It has so much to do that the whole family took an entire day to hang out there and experience the things The Gateway has to offer. This particular Goat Yoga experience happened on a different day, but I figure I'll use it to start off my Gateway series of posts.
Goat yoga. Have you heard of it? It's a new fad I've been hearing about. You do yoga while goats prance around you and jump on you.
Let's start with the cons:
*Ouch ouch ouch! A goat jumping on me?? Ouch! At one point there were 4 goats on my back at one time. There hooves hurt. I left with scratches and bruises.
*I couldn't hear the instructor giving the yoga instructions. (This con would of course be based on what company you have your goat yoga experience with)
*The yoga mats are pretty dirty. You can bring your own - but then it might get goat dirty too.
*You can't concentrate on the yoga because the goats are so darn distracting.
*Since it was at an outdoor location, there were spectators. Which means there are people watching me do yoga. (Okay, in all reality, no one probably noticed me at all; they were watching the goats. But still.)
Now on to the pros:
*It's adorable! And when else are you going to get to experience a goat standing on your back?
Fun fact: The workers would walk around with packs of graham crackers to feed the goats. The goats would follow them for the graham crackers and that's how they get the goats to wander around and jump around. Otherwise, they might just stand in one spot the whole time and allow you to actually do yoga and not get a bruised back.
In conclusion:
I recommend this activity to those who like to get beat up by goats. Otherwise, I recommend passing. This is definitely a fad that will not stick around. At the beginning of the class, they asked the group who has done goat yoga before. Only one person had. I suspect it's cuz it's something you only do once before you realize what a bad idea it is.
Stay tuned! Next up: More activities from The Gateway!
