Wyoming Downs Racetrack
This past weekend, I had the chance to cross something off my bucket list: Bet on a horse race. Being in Utah, that is hard to do. But just 2 hours north, in Evanston, WY is Wyoming Downs Race Track. They have races on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer. So I left the kids with grandma and Ryan and I headed north for the afternoon.
It was a lot of fun. We were able to use their app to place our bets (which is so much better than waiting in line to bet on each race). It was neat that the minimum bet was $2, so that made it low risk and just fun. We weren't great at picking winners. But we did bet $2 on After Chad and he won us $15.20 (though we quickly lost that betting on other horses like Russdiculous and Unstoppable Honor).
I think what is the more fun part of horse racing is the names people give their race horses. They are the funniest names!
My favorite horse names:
If I named a race horse:
The race program would list the names of the parents of the race horses racing that day. Something fun is that, a lot of times, a baby race horse is named after both his or her parents. Here are some examples:
*The foal of Sierra Sunset and Quick Emotions was named Quick Sunset
*The foal of Winners Version and Sneakers Special was named Sneakers Version
*The foal of Paint Your Wagon and Southern Fling was named Fling Your Paint
*The foal of Favorite Cartel and Deja La Blue was named Favorite La Blue
*The foal of Jess Got Easier and Rarely Purrfect was named Jesspurr
*The foal of Roman Ruler and Saintly Music was named Roman Music
*The foal of Brace for Bernal and Dashin Big Time was named Brace for Bigtime

That is fascinating!! I never knew that about horse names. I love how whimsical and crazy they can get! Sounds like a blast :D
