ba da ba ba ba i'm lovin' it

i'm lovin it, me encanta, ik hou ervan, i'm lovin it eh, i'm lovin it mate

My Preference Preface: Before I write about McDonald's, I feel the need to say that usually I am not the biggest fan of McDonald's. I feel like their food is more suited for children. With so many other restaurant options available, McDonald's is usually only visited by my family with Little C and Little D insist upon it. However, I had to make an exception for Worldwide Favorites.

McDonald's most recent (American) campaign involves bringing some of the foreign menu items to America for a limited time. Doesn't that sound fun? It did to me.

So I loaded the family into the car and we had lunch at McDonald's.

We ordered each of the new menu items for Ryan and I to share (plus two Happy Meals for the picky eater kids). Here are my thoughts on each item.

Grand McExtreme Bacon Burger from Spain (also available as a double): The things that make this burger unique are smoked bacon, McBacon sauce and gouda cheese. I can't actually speak to what McBacon sauce is (besides delicious). But I can tell you that I liked this burger.

Tomato Mozzarella Chicken Sandwich from Canada (available with grilled or crispy chicken): This burger doesn't seem to be anything super strange to us Americans (it's not like its a shrimp filet sandwich from Japan), but the fact that we usually can't get this sandwich in America definitely made it fun to try. It's a chicken patty with tomato and mozzarella cheese. (I can't understand why it's called the Tomato Mozzarella Chicken Sandwich!) There is also lettuce on it and a sauce called Tomato and Herb Sauce (probably contains tomatoes and herbs, but I can't verify that!) I liked this sandwich a lot. I tend to like chicken sandwiches more than beef. Adding mozzarella cheese made it quite tasty. If my kids "force" me to go to McDonald's again, this is probably the sandwich I would order.

Cheesy Bacon Fries from Australia: The concept is self explanatory, but oh my goodness, I loved these!!! I had to buy them again. (Mostly to take pictures for the blog since I didn't take any when we had our family lunch at McDonald's. But I certainly didn't mind eating them again.)

You really need to eat these babies with a fork. And don't let the picture fool you: there is plenty of cheese sauce all over those fries! Plenty of bacon too, but the picture did a good job of showing that. Little D even tried and liked them. The cheese sauce is not spicy (which for me was a good thing). And the bacon wasn't super chewy like fast food bacon sometimes is. I would ba da ba ba ba love it if this was always on the American menu.

And lastly, dessert: Stroopwafel McFlurry from the Netherlands: This one was actually not my favorite. The caramel waffle cookie pieces in it seem to be too chewy and not crispy. And once the McFlurry machine has its way with the cookie pieces, the pieces are so smashed up that it's hard to even tell what the cookie pieces are. It's still ice cream and still good, so don't let me tell you not to try it.

I sure hope that McDonald's does this promotion again sometime with more international items. (I would love to try Chocolate Fries (from Japan) or Spinach and Parmesan Nuggets (from Italy).

Stay tuned! Next up: Sensory Deprivation Tank

  1. I love that McDonald's does this! They really should do it more often!! I think it's a great marketing research experiment!

  2. If only these didn't come with cheese... Seriously though I may go and ask if I can get these without cheese. Hmmm
