The Lion King - 18 thoughts I had - I bet you didn't notice #9

Hi guys!

Today I want to write about the new "live action" Lion King movie that we saw as a family on Saturday. Instead of a boring review (you can find those all over the web right now), I thought I'd share my thoughts that I had during the movie.

Thoughts (at least somewhat) related to The Lion King:

1. Even though the movie isn't actually live action, it definitely feels live action (except the animals talking stuff).

2. Zebra manes are SO COOL!

3. I can't believe they butchered the Be Prepared song. That one is my favorite!

4. I wonder what Jeremy Irons is up to these days? (This is a link to his IMDB page).

5. Did Jon Favreau ever become the Ultimate Fighting Champion.

6. Why does Mufasa let Simba hang out with Scar at all?

7. Ryan Rubin did a great job as the Score Wrangler. Sometimes scores just need to be wrangled.

8. Thanos Kousis was an artist in the movie. I guess they hired Thanos so he could snap his finger and magically make the movie half as good as the original.

9. I love that they used a song from The Lion King 2 in the credits.

Thoughts not related to The Lion King:

10. Why don't we have fireflies in Utah? (I looked it up: the short answer is that fireflies like standing water and warm, moist environments. While we have some areas of standing water in Utah, we are certainly not a moist environment.)

11. What more can I give to the world?

12. My yard has a weird unflat dip that I don't like.

13. I love Little C and Little D's new pants (got them on Amazon prime day).

14. Are we really going to have tofu for dinner tonight?

15. Why is it so hard for me to remember that it is spelled "underwear" and not "underware"?

16. Driving in fog is super annoying.

17. I should double check my blood pressure.

18. My $5 shoes from Walmart are awesome!

  1. I heard that the new Timon and Pumbaa were able to shake things up a little bit with some ad lib stuff. What did you think?

    1. I liked Timon and Pumbaa, They were a highlight. I would say that Nathan Lane from the Original was better than Billy Eichner as Timon, but Seth Rogan was better than the guy who played Mr. Carosi from Saved By The Bell as Pumbaa.

They were definitely a highlight. And I think they had a real uphill battle with this movie. When you try to remake a nearly perfect movie like the original Lion it is nearly impossible to match it or make it better. It is just regression to the mean.

When you look at it as an independent movie, the artwork was INCREDIBLE. The photorealism of the animation was a beautiful sight and it is one of the first movies I have seen in 3D that I didn't regret seeing in 3D.
